Cracker will headline the sixth annual River Street Festival in downtown Troy on June 20.
The band is best known for their multi-platinum album “Kerosene Hat.” They had a string of hits during the mid 90s including “Low,” “Eurotrash Girl,” “Get Off This,” and “Teen Angst.”
Last week the band released its new album, “Sunrise in the Land of Mile and Honey.”
“Bringing Cracker to the City of Troy for the annual River Street Festival adds a great component to this annual event that celebrates our great history, revitalized downtown and kicks off summer in a major way,” said Mayor Harry Tutunjian.
Joining Cracker on the main stage is former Soul Coughing lead singer Mike Doughty. Soul Coughing, the New York based rockers, had a string of hits in the late 90’s including “Circles” and “Super Bon-Bon.”
Also on the 2009 River Street Festival bill is former Catherine Wheel front man Rob Dickinson, now touring as a solo act, and Bridgeport, CT rockers The Alternate Routes.
A second stage of local music will be announced in the coming weeks.
Beginning in 2004, the City of Troy and the River Street merchants formed the River Street Festival. Unlike the commercially established festivals you see today, the River Street festival has a grassroots arts and antiques theme. The festival is a family oriented event that also offers food and entertainment.
This year’s festival is sponsored by the City of Troy, the Downtown Collaborative, and the Arts Center of the Capital Region.
