A Harold taxi firm run by former Pogues frontman Shane Macgowan is in celebratory mood today after picking up an award for its tenth consecutive year of trouble free motoring in the town.
‘Dirty Old Cabs’ who run from an office at the back of the Squirell Licker’s Arms were presented with the prestigious award by Harold mayor Rufus D. Jackson in recognition of the first class service provided by Shane to the people of Harold.
The award is presented each year by the Harold Chamber of Trade following nominations by members of the public for the business that has made the most significant impact on their lives throughout the year.
This year Shane’s taxi cabs received more than double the nominations of its nearest rival.
Shane says that in 10 years of ferrying people around his adopted hometown he has never missed a single appointment, has yet to be late for a call-out and has never taken a short cut through the industrial estate.
Shane celebrated the prestigious award with a heavy drinking session at his local before heading off to Luton Airport to pick up a group of schoolchildren returning home from a skiing trip.
Cheers Shane….here’s to the next 10 years of trouble free motoring
‘Er…no thanks, it’s all right…I think I’ll walk’.
